The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to hospital for a planned operation on his hip, Buckingham Palace has said.
The Duke of Edinburgh retired from public duties in August 2017, although he still attends the occasional engagement. This came after the palace originally said that the 96-year-old would "wind down" his workload gradually, though he was keen to carry out his duties.
Last Sunday, Prince Philip missed the traditional Easter Day church service at Windsor Castle due to his injury.
At the time the Queen's consort was said to be experiencing some trouble with the joint. At times blunt to the point of rudeness, Philip is Elizabeth's most important support. "Prince Philip has been admitted to the hospital several times in recent years", a source previously told ET.
