"Amazon's future here in Vancouver is very bright".
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in unison with a number of Amazon executives, announced that the world's leading ecommerce company will be expanding its footprint in Vancouver with the creation of a new 416,000 square foot facility.
He noted that Amazon has had considerable success recruiting and hiring Canadians - a mix of experienced coders, university graduates and people who have chosen to live and work in Canada. "And while these tech investments are important to Vancouver, there is lots of potential for a broader, long-term collaboration between Amazon and the existing ecosystem of digital entertainment & interactive industries".
Amazon already employs more than 6000 full-time workers across Canada, including more than 1000 researchers and engineers in Vancouver who primarily create new products and services for the company's worldwide retail and Amazon Web Services (AWS) businesses.
