NSW police confirmed that the Triple Zero service was also affected by the outage, advising NSW residents to ring the Police Assistant Line on 131 444 for all emergencies.

Our initial inspection showed significant fire damage consistent with a lightning strike.

Police say that public requiring assistance from any of the emergency services, are urged to contact Triple Zero ('000') in the first instance.

A nationwide Telstra outage has affected calls to emergency services this morning.

Phone systems are also being impacted, with landline and mobile services impacted.

"We've moved to other arrangements - the Police Assistance Line picking up the 000 calls that can't get through".

Another Major Attack in Syria

"People were taking to a 000 operator and when the calls were being transferred to the communications center, that's when it disconnected", Norm Buckley, Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent, told reporters on Friday.

Queensland and South Australian emergency services reported calls were coming through to their services without any issue. However, an issue occurred with the routing of some traffic which resulted in intermittent disruptions to E000 calls.

According to Telstra, the cable was repaired just after 4am, however the service is yet to be properly restored.

Telstra said it became aware of that issue with its NBN and 4G networks about 1pm, and by 4pm a company spokesman said the problem had been fixed.

A lightning strike has caused Telstra issues across the country.
