Specifically using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the S-Pen can now be used as a mini remote for the phone to trigger selfies or group shots if you place it out of reach, switch slides in a presentation or pause video. The Galaxy Note 9 itself has some notable upgrades of its own. As detailed in the cnet article linked above, the upgraded model features the usual processor and software upgrades, a slightly larger display, and some fingerprint reader/speaker improvements such as those seen in the Galaxy S9 line. Today, at its Galaxy Unpacked event, along with the Galaxy Note9 and Galaxy Watch, the company also unveiled Galaxy Home, the firm's first smart speaker that is powered its own digital assistant, Bixby, which will nearly certainly take on the likes of the Amazon Echo, Google Home and Apple HomePod.
The device comes in a fantastic high-end variant that features 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.
Samsung Galaxy Home, Powered by Bixby and AKG Speakers, Now Official
Samsung officially revealed its new Galaxy Note 9 phone today at an event in New York City. Just in case you want to be changing phones every year. There's an AMOLED screen on the watch, although we don't now know the screen size for either watch, or the resolution.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be available for pre-order starting at 12:01 EDT on August 10th. The device supports LTE connectivity for more than 30 carriers across 15 countries so you don't need a phone to use the smartwatch all the time. The device has a mesh black design and a tripod-like stand. Samsung called the announcement a preview and said it would share more details in the near future. Keeping with tradition, the Note 9 will also have a 512GB microSD card slot, so users can get over 1 TB of storage.
