Citing unnamed officials familiar with the intelligence, the U.S. daily said that newly obtained evidence, including satellite photos taken in recent weeks, suggests that North Koreans were working on at least one and possibly two liquid-fueled ICBMs at a large research facility in Sanumdong on the outskirts of Pyongyang.

According to the Post, senior North Korean officials may be trying to deceive Washington about their nuclear and missile capabilities.

Newly obtained evidence, including satellite photos taken in recent weeks, indicates that work is underway on at least one and possibly two liquid-fueled ICBMs at a large research facility in Sanumdong, on the outskirts of Pyongyang, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe classified intelligence. However, just as in the case of all the supposed chemical and biological weapons sites in Iraq, US intelligence agencies have in the past declared that certain sites within North Korea were secret nuclear facilities, when further investigation showed less threatening answers.

"But we do know they are heroes, all", Pence said.

The remains were turned over after President Donald Trump's Singapore summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Friday's transfer of the remains coincided with the 65th anniversary of the 1953 armistice that ended fighting between North Korean and Chinese forces and South Korean and USA -led forces under the U.N. Command.

The factory is known to have produced the Hwasong-15, the first North Korean ICBM capable of reaching the US.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the US Senate foreign relations committee last week that the North was still making fuel for nuclear weapons, but maintained the Trump administration was still making progress.

North Korea analyst Robert Kelly with Pusan National University in South Korea said the limited gains made at the military talks reflect the tough and prolonged negotiation process ahead to move North Korea beyond confidence building measures and to make real concessions to downsize its military forces at the border. "So between this and Kangson, we are seeing an expanded and improved nuclear and missile force".

After an April 2017 meeting at the president's Mar-a-Lago home, Xi supported successive rounds of United Nations sanctions and clamped down on border trade with North Korea.

The Pentagon said it's "absolutely" considering sending USA personnel to North Korea to search for more missing Americans. Service members from countries including Australia, Belgium, France and the Philippines also have not been recovered from North Korea.

The recovery efforts stalled for more than a decade because of a standoff over North Korea's nuclear ambitions and a previous U.S. claim that security arrangements for its personnel working in the North were insufficient.
