A second allegation of sexual misconduct has emerged against US Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Do you think this is a credible allegation?

He spoke as Kavanaugh's nomination appeared in peril after The New Yorker published the account of a second woman who says he exposed himself to her while they were students at Yale.

Trump, speaking in NY where he was attending the United Nations annual assembly, threw his full weight behind Kavanaugh whose once straightforward progress to the nation's highest court has been hit by two bombshell accusations of sexual misconduct from his school and university days.

His confirmation by the Republican-controlled Senate seemed assured until Ford alleged in a Washington Post interview that a drunken 17-year-old Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and tried to tear her clothes off.

Mr Kavanaugh denies the claim.

But speaking on "CBS This Morning", Conway added, "This is starting to feel like a vast left-wing conspiracy".

Grassley's stance reflected a desire by President Donald Trump and GOP leaders to usher the 53-year-old Kavanaugh onto the high court by the October 1 start of its new session and before the November elections, when Democrats are mounting a robust drive to grab congressional control. She claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a party while they both were at Yale in the early 1980s.

"As with any witness who comes before the Senate, the Senate Judiciary Committee can not hand over its constitutional duties to attorneys for outside witnesses", Mike Davis, Grassley's top nominations counsel, wrote in an email exchange with Ford's lawyers obtained by The Associated Press. Taylor Foy, a Judiciary spokesman, complained that Democrats "actively withheld information" from the Republicans.

The New York Times said it declined to do so after failing to substantiate Ramirez's account.

Some conservatives have questioned whether Ford actually recalls the assault as she's described it, some alleging that, maybe she was assaulted, but that it wasn't Kavanaugh. "And we [at The New Yorker] reached out to her". She posted a sign saying she has no comment on her front door.

Donnelly called the allegations serious and said the committee should hold off on the originally scheduled Thursday vote. Among the GOP defectors was Sen. "You will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. - U.S.

Del Potro also acknowledged their close friendship and noted that his opponent won Wimbledon , the most recent grand slam. As was his try for an 18th grand slam trophy overall as he tries to catch up to Federer's 20, the record for men.

Mayer said that she felt the "public ought to know" about the latest allegations against Kavanaugh.

As Republicans considered their next move in private talks, they also made it clear they viewed Ford's offer as a way to delay voting on President Donald Trump's pick for the court.

But Kavanaugh's nomination languished for three years, as Democrats fumed over his participation in Bush's recount team. They then marched to the Supreme Court.

The White House is approaching Ford's potential testimony with trepidation, nervous that an emotional appearance might not just damage Kavanaugh's chances but could further energize female voters to turn out against Republicans in November.

White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec blamed Democrats for the latest allegation.

Speaking in NY, where he is attending the U.N. General Assembly this week, Trump said the allegations against Kavanaugh are "totally political".

Republican committee staff told Ford's attorneys that they would be unwilling to accept what they characterized as a "demand" that only senators be permitted to ask questions of the witnesses.

McConnell said that in their haste to tar Kavanaugh, they ended up violating the wishes of accuser Christine Blasey Ford.

In requesting another day to decide, Ford lawyer Debra Katz late Friday called Grassley's original deadline "arbitrary" and said its "sole goal is to bully Dr. Ford and deprive her of the ability to make a considered decision that has life-altering implications for her and her family".
