The Senate voted 51-49 Friday to cut off debate and move to final consideration following bitter debate over his suitability for the court due to the allegations and a partisan attack he made on Democratic senators.

The final Kavanaugh vote still hinges on a handful of undecided Senators, most notably Republicans Flake, Collins and Murkowski; and Democratic Manchin.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins called the document "thorough", while Arizona's Jeff Flake said, "We've seen no additional corroborating information". Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voted no on the motion to cloture.

Two Senate Republicans who provided critical votes to advance the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court spent hours reviewing the 45 pages of interview notes from an FBI investigation.

Other vulnerable Senate Democrats such as Sens.

About 100 anti-Kavanaugh protesters climbed the Capitol's East Steps as the vote approached, pumping fists and waving signs, and U.S. Capitol Police officers began arresting some of them. 82 percent of Democrats say the same thing, slightly up from 78 percent in July.

That report was turned over the Senate Judiciary Committee late Wednesday.

A former Supreme Court Justice even came out against Kavanaugh's confirmation, leading Kavanaugh to write a rare Wall Street Journal op-ed defending his independence and impartiality.

The California Democrat said that the judge's behavior showed "a man filled with anger and aggression". I believe Brett Kavanaugh is a good man.

President Trump praised the Republican-led Senate, tweeting he was "Very proud" it managed to advance Kavanaugh's nomination.

During an interview Friday morning on NPR, White House spokeswoman Kerri Kupec echoed that view, saying: "We are confident Judge Kavanaugh will be confirmed".

After being sent on loan to West Bromwich Albion last season, the injury-prone England forward's Liverpool career looked over. Up next, however, is a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool; a trip they will have to make without Ings.

The jockeying for final votes to confirm Kavanaugh is playing out as the senators review the highly anticipated report from the FBI investigating two allegations of decades-old sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh.

Republicans have a 51-49 majority in the Senate.

In another odd twist, Montana Republican Sen.

In response, Kavanaugh furiously claimed the allegations were part of a hit job by Democrats in revenge for losing the 2016 election to Donald Trump and on behalf of the Clintons. Joe Manchin, who caught colleagues off guard when he voted with Republicans to cut off debate on Kavanaugh.

The FBI interviewed nine people and reached out to ten, speaking to people including those identified by Christine Blasey Ford, who alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her decades ago. Kavanaugh could provide the decisive vote to roll back abortion rights, outlaw affirmative action programs and slash environmental regulations.

Tensions were also reflected by the thousands of boisterous anti-Kavanaugh demonstrators who flowed around the Capitol complex for days, confronting senators and even reported near their homes.

Kavanaugh's confirmation process has been fraught with scandal, as he was accused by three women of sexual assault and other misconduct in his high school and college years.

Kavanaugh was heavily criticized for his demeanor during his September 27 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on allegations he assaulted Christine Blasey Ford at a suburban Maryland house party in 1982.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said the Federal Bureau of Investigation was unable to locate "any third parties who could attest to any of these allegations - no backup from any witnesses, including those specifically named as eyewitnesses by the people who brought the allegations in the first place". They also sought to paint him as a justice that would swing the court deeply to the right.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME joined with almost all of her GOP colleagues and Democratic Sen.
