Megyn Kelly, the former Fox News Channel personality who made a rocky transition to softer news at NBC, was sacked from her morning show today after triggering a furor by suggesting it was OK for white people to wear blackface at Halloween.
NBC has officially canceled "Megyn Kelly Today" amid rampant speculation about the future of her show, after her show aired reruns on Thursday and Friday. The show occupied the fourth hour of NBC's Today program, a time slot that will be hosted by other co-anchors next week, the network said. Another source who was not authorized to speak publicly was cited in the report as saying Kelly's representatives are scheduled to meet Friday with company executives and it looks "extremely unlikely" that she'll stay.
For those who may have missed the controversy, Kelly discussed what Halloween costumes were considered inappropriate with Jacob Soboroff, Melissa Rivers, and Jenna Bush Hager on her October 23 show. Two people told The Washington Post that Megyn Kelly Today executive producer Jackie Levin was heard sobbing in an NBC office on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018 - the day Kelly remarked about using blackface. She said she wasn't clear on why some consider the practices racist.

The comments sparked a quick backlash on social media, calls for Kelly's resignation and displeasure from her own colleagues. "Back when I was a kid, that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character".
Kelly earned fame as a longtime anchor for Fox News, notably sparring with Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election campaign.
Ms Kelly is in the second year of a three-year contract that reportedly pays her more than NZ$30 million a year. She also dismissed the Justice Department report that found rampant racial discrimination in the Ferguson Police Department.
