Detzner will order machine recounts for all statewide and multi-county races within 0.5 points.
According to CNN, Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis now holds a slim lead of only half a percentage point (49.6 percent to 49.1 percent) over his Democratic opponent Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum. If the margin of victory is equal or less than 0.5 percent, state law requires a machine to recount the votes. It won't change things, but it will put paid to the conspiracy theories that are already floating in Georgia over the election process there.
The latest numbers from the Florida Division of Elections website show Rick Scott leading Nelson in the U.S. Senate race, 50.11percent to 49.89 percent. And if the margin in race is larger than 0.25 percent, the results will be considered official.
Florida law requires a recount in races in which the winning margin is 0.5 percentage points or fewer, unless the trailing candidate says in writing that he or she doesn't want a recount. Palm Beach and Broward counties haven't completed their vote-by-mail tallies yet, and all but a handful of counties have yet to complete reviews of provisional ballots.
There is zero chance that a recount will reverse a gap in the ranges of either the senate or gubernatorial races.
There has been speculation that the Senate race's placement in the bottom left corner of the Broward ballot, away from the state races that got more votes, was responsible for the undercount. Elias said it was odd that the undervoting was happening at the top of the ticket, rather than downballot.
Before then, election canvassing boards in each county will review provisional ballots to determine if they are valid. Duplicated ballots from the first recount are re-checked with their originals to make sure they're accurate.
By contrast, 690,153 ballots have been tabulated so far in the Florida governor race.
The Republican Party had no immediate response to the developments, but Mr. Scott's campaign said bluntly that Mr. Elias was launching an effort to steal the election.
"I believe Sen. Nelson will prevail", Elias said.

The Florida governor's race is heading to a machine recount and the U.S. Senate race will face a lengthier manual recount after returns from Broward County on Thursday pushed Democrats Andrew Gillum and U.S. Sen.
Now the vote margin is within striking distance of an automatic recount, and both parties are bracing for it.
The Gillum statement said that since the concession speech "it has become clear there are many more uncounted ballots than was originally reported". It is currently.2 percent, fewer than 22,000 votes, according to NBC News.
The DeSantis campaign has not yet commented on the possibility of an automatic recount, but DeSantis is expected to meet with reporters in South Florida this afternoon. And Nikki Fried actually overtook Republican Matt Caldwell in the Agriculture Commissioner contest, posting a 575 vote lead.
As of Wednesday morning, DeSantis led Gillum by 43,039 votes out of almost 8.2 million cast, or a difference of 0.526 of a percentage point.
Some counties, however, are closing its doors on staffers seeking public records, stymieing the only resource available to identify voters who cast provisional ballots.
Voters with issues are supposed to cast those ballots, and then if necessary provide any additional evidence that their ballots should be accepted.
Thursday, Nov. 15: If a machine recount is ordered, the second round of unofficial returns is due from the counties at 3 p.m.
Election officials in other Florida counties may have disclosed the identities of which voters cast provisional ballots, however.
