A video released by Trump through Twitter on November 26 shows the First Lady walking through the newly decorated White House.

Melania Trump's #BeBest campaign has been the target of criticism since it was announced, given her husband, President Donald Trump, is well known for his personal attacks on critics.

"Talking about opioids and getting the message out, and what is the media... hung up on with the first lady now?"

She said: "Also, sometimes you need to fight back ― I'm sorry".

The first lighting took place on Christmas Eve in 1923, when President Calvin Coolidge lit a Christmas tree in front of 3,000 spectators. She added that she tells him to "love yourself more than you love drugs".

"We are in the 21st Century and everybody has a different taste", she said.

"I think they look fantastic", Trump said.

The decorations included more than 40 topiary trees - many of which were dyed bright red - 72 handmade paper ornaments and the official White House Christmas tree, an 18-foot fir wrapped in 500 feet of blue velvet ribbon. At the University, she mentioned she teaches her 12-year-old son Barron about the adverse effects of participating in cyberbullying.

Bolling asked how the first lady would like to see the media change in their coverage of her "Be Best" initiative - responding, Trump said she would like the media to focus more on what she's doing in trying to spread awareness.

Mrs. Trump was speaking at a Liberty University "town hall" about the opioid addiction epidemic.
