PM Narendra Modi Reaches Argentina's Buenos Aires To Attend G20 Summit.

The Prime Minister said: 'I am talking to president Macri about opportunities for trade, but our position on the sovereignty of the Falklands hasn't changed - and will not change'. The President has openly expressed his fondness for hearing differing points of view on trade, and has fostered the intra-administration disputes that have marked his policy toward China.

Wishing the summit a success, Xi said he stands ready to work together with Macri and all other leaders to uphold the all-in-the-same-boat spirit and steer the "boat" of the world economy from the La Plata River toward the wide oceans.

The G20 started with a group photo and a warm handshake between Russian president Vladimir Putin and Saudi Arabian crown prince Mohammad bin Salman, who is accused of ordering the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

President Emmanuel Macron of France had a conversation with the crown prince, French officials said in media reports.

The summit marks a quick return to the worldwide stage for the Prince Mohammed after the kingdom came under fire for the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in its Istanbul consulate.

Argentina's leader thanked President Trump for his visit and for his support of the South American nation.

"As this is a hard moment for global cooperation, I would like to appeal to the leaders to use this summit.to seriously discuss real issues such as trade wars, the tragic situation in Syria and Yemen and the Russian aggression in Ukraine", European Council President Donald Tusk told a news conference in Buenos Aires. "Our security measures will be very strong and the decisions that we will make if there is violence will be immediate".

Leaders of the United States, Canada and Mexico met in the morning to sign a trade deal replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement that was struck following months of tough negotiations that analysts say left a bitter taste among the partners.

The two superpowers have been fighting a trade war, which is threatening to hurt the global economy as billions of dollars of tariffs have been slapped on products.

Mrs May's presence at the talks between world leaders is likely to be dominated by the issue of Brexit and the UK's future global trade as it prepares to leave the European Union in March 2019.

Signing the agreement alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Trump said he looked forward to working with the U.S. Congress to complete the terms of the deal and did not anticipate problems.

Trump canceled a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that was scheduled to take place on Saturday, citing Russia's ongoing detention of Ukrainian ships and sailors.

Theresa May has become the first Conservative Prime Minister to visit Argentina - and the only one to visit its capital - since Margaret Thatcher's Falklands war.

However, Mrs Merkel's own arrival at the summit has been delayed by a technical fault in her plane. While China and other countries have dragged the United States to the WTO against its move to justify tariff hikes on grounds of national security, the USA has repeatedly stopped efforts to appoint judges to the highest adjudicating body in the WTO and has even suggested evicting China from the WTO as an option.
