The news comes as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a stronger stance on the China dispute in an interview with Breakfast Television.

Earlier this week, China detained two Canadian nationals - Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor - over allegations they were involved in activities endangering national security.

One, former diplomat Michael Kovrig, was held on Monday night by Beijing's state security bureau.
