Microsoft first announced support for setting up and signing into Windows 10 Home edition insiders with a phone number account and no password via Build 18305 in December. According to Microsoft, Cortana will now be disabled by default for those who purchase devices with Pro, Enterprise, and Education versions of Windows 10.
This new build also introduces some Narrator improvements and 11 additional mouse pointer sizes in the Cursor and Pointers settings. Once you've setup your account, you can use Windows Hello Face, Fingerprint, or a PIN (depending on your device capabilities) to sign in to Windows 10.
The CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) today issued CVE-2018-8626 for a Windows DNS server heap overflow vulnerability. With Microsoft's new solution, users can simply provide their phone number and receive a text message containing a code, similar to how 2 step verification works on other platforms. If you think you hit this bug, you can type "winver" in the search box on your taskbar to double-check your build number.

With just over one year left before Microsoft ends extended support for Windows 7, expect to see Windows 10 continue to increase its market share. Now lock the device and select your phone number account on the Windows sign-in screen. Microsoft already confirmed past year that its Windows 10 OS version has been installed on 700 million devices including PCs, Xbox, tablets and phones. The tech giant has since introduced the Authenticator app, which allows users to log into their Microsoft account on their desktop using their phone.
As a result, you will easily be able to navigate to the most used apps without searching for it.
Compounding the frustration is that while Microsoft is using Cortana to improve the accessibility of Windows setup, it hasn't actually done a very good job.
This feature is available now in Insider build 18309. It posits that Windows 7, long-time OS overlord, now holds 36.9% of the worldwide install base, while Windows 10 has, as of last month, finally plucked up courage for a cheeky little overtake - it now sits at 39.22%.
