While Cardi's the first woman to win the award for a solo act, Lauryn Hill did win best rap album as part of hip-hop group Fugees (also made up of Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel) in 1997.

"Oh my goodness", she said, struggling to gather herself. "Maybe I need to start smoking weed", she quipped, to laughs and applause from the glitzy gala set. "I remember past year when I didn't win for "Bodak Yellow" and everyone was like 'Cardi got snubbed.' Now it's a motherf***kin problem?!", Cardi continued.

'Every award, my n*****, goes to my mother's house and every award to her is just as special and just as special to me'. "I'm really pushing my album to be a playlist and not an album, because a playlist is consistently being played for moves, exercises, and different things".

People were confused when the rapper thanked late rocker Tom Petty for sending a "big" bouquet after she snagged her trophy. She delivered much of her acceptance speech holding on to her husband Offset. "Cause he was like, 'Oh, you're gonna do this album, girl".
