Gale force winds sweep country as Storm Erik brings disruption

The high winds have affected air travel, with one British Airways flight failing to land at Heathrow amid the gales.

Footage posted on Twitter showed it bouncing around on approach to landing before the pilot abandoned the landing and circled the airport. It has now landed safely at Manchester.

The Met Office issued a number of weather warnings for floods and strong winds on Saturday, as Storm Erik brought gusts of nearly 70mph that caused disruption on several roads, with emergency services warning motorists to take care.
