The three Conservative politicians announced they would sit alongside the Independent Group parliamentarians.

It found that 14% would support the new group, while the Conservatives had 38% of the vote, Labour 26% and the Liberal Democrats 7%.

The Independent Group has already taken on eight Labour MPs and three Conservatives, with the defectors warning more could be expected to follow.

On Wednesday, three Tory MPs, Anna Soubry, Heidi Allen and Sarah Wollaston, became the first to resign and join a breakaway group demanding a second Brexit referendum.

He said he would not call a by-election. Since the referendum to remain in the European Union was lost, "Brexit now defines and shapes the Conservative party". I deeply regret that three of my colleagues have chose to leave the party.

Ms Greening, the former education secretary, was invited to a meeting in Downing Street yesterday afternoon after she said she was staying in the Conservative Party "for the moment".

Champions League: PSG inflicts Solskjaer's 1st United loss
After winning his 10 games out of 11 played so far, everything seems to have fallen in place for Ole Gunnar and his Manchester United side.

Key to persuading the Labour party leadership to support this way forward will the position of John McDonnell MP, Shadow Chancellor. Given both groupings at Westminster have - for now - the same number of MPs, what does this say about the credibility of the Lib Dems under York-born Sir Vince Cable?

The leaders of the ERG, who have failed to topple May, say they would rather see a "no-deal Brexit" than preserve the relative compromise and closer ties that May seeks on rules and regulations.

When a caller told Birmingham MP, Jess Phillips, she should quit the party for criticising Jeremy Corbyn, the free-thinking politician had the flawless comeback.

But Mr Adams told BBC Radio Wales: "I think if you spoke to any European Research Group member they would be delighted to think that they were running the party from top to bottom, that's absolute nonsense".

Responding to the resignations, May wrote: "I am saddened by this decision - these are people who have given dedicated service to our party over many years, and I thank them for it". Because we believe that a truly one nation Conservative government is the way to be open-minded and generous in social policy, realistic in economic policy and internationalist in foreign policy.

"I think Jeremy Corbyn has completely changed what was a mainstream party into a completely different party with very different values". Eighteen million people voted for Brexit and Brexit is what we are going to get; the thoughts and opinions of the 16 million people who voted to remain are not taken into account. They want to crush people like us trying to change things for this country.
