The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is publicly-funded and available from pharmacists in almost every community, the association said in a news release Friday. She is, however, in favour of making parents provide proof of vaccination when registering a child for school - meaning that parents would have to either declare that they are choosing not to vaccinate, or provide their child's vaccination record. The DOH said it recorded 11,459 confirmed cases of measles, with 189 fatalities from January 1 to February 20 this year.

Infection with the virus begins with a high fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, followed by a blotchy rash that spreads from the face and neck to the rest of the body. These symptoms develop between 7 to 21 days after a person is exposed. However, measles can result in complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, and death.

Measles can spread through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. The World Health Organization says there were 110,000 deaths from measles globally in 2017, majority children under age five.

Forty five of the confirmed Clark County cases involve children between the ages of 1 and 10.
