The Met Office said weather warnings for strong winds could be issued over the weekend as low pressure rakes across the United Kingdom, leaving heavy rain and snow in its wake. The Monday morning commute will be clear.
State Highway 28 near Graceville in western Minnesota is covered by snow on Saturday morning, March 9, 2019, as a winter storm moved into the state.
The Met Office have warned motorists and commuters to expect delays, with a risk of power outages and loss of other services a possibility.
The rain will be accompanied by strong winds with gusts of up to 80 km/h expected in some areas on Sunday. It may be a slower changeover near and north of the Pike where snow and sleet may continue through midday before a gradual change to rain.
Forecaster Nick Miller said temperatures will start to drop on Thursday as cold air is dragged over Britain. More snow is forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
Total snow accumulations of up to an inch and ice accumulations of several hundredths of an inch were forecast for the advisory area. The wind will blow from the northwest through the afternoon and begin to diminish overnight.
