The Republican president spoke a day after the vote on a resolution originally meant to condemn anti-Semitism following controversial comments by Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar that instead became a broader anti-hate measure. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Andre Carson (D-IN), fellow Muslims in Congress, calling the resolution "great progress".
The resolution was meant as a veiled criticism of Omar's recent comments about pro-Israel advocates, which have been widely condemned as anti-Semitic.
Some Democrats complained that Omar's comments on Israel had ignited all this debate while years of President Trump's racially charged rhetoric had led to no similar congressional action.
Another tactic taken up by Democrats is trolling for supposedly anti-Semitic comments by Republicans to deflect and dilute the attention on Omar.
WIth Omar facing accusations of anti-Semitism, the House of Representatives passed a watered-down resolution denouncing not just anti-Jewish racism, but racism and discrimination of all kinds, on Thursday. But even Democrats who voted for the resolution, objected to the final watered-down version.
She continued: "Our nation is having a hard conversation and we believe this is great progress".

Dissent among Dems over Response to Omar's Israel Remarks
People are "looking for ways to take her down". "That would have been fine", Vargas said of Ocasio-Cortez's response on Twitter. "What I fear is going on in the House now is an effort to target Congresswoman Omar as a way of stifling that debate".
Victoria's Secret To Close Another 53 Stores This Year
The closure in the amount of stores is historically more than three times compared to the 15 shops it shuts annually on average. Overnight, subsequent to releasing its results, the company said it would close 53 stores in North America.
Though some pro-Israel Democrats may genuinely be troubled by Omar's comments, many Republicans appear to be blowing their gaskets in bad faith.
The resolution, however, did not specifically call out the anti-Semitic remarks made by freshman Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) that prompted the vote in the first place. "And so this resolution ended up really being an effort to protect her".
They worry they could run into trouble on another bill, their signature ethics and voting reform package, if Republicans try to tack their own anti-Semitism bill on as an amendment.
"Exhibit A of how politicians use the media as a straw man to avoid owning what they said", he wrote, adding, "Your tape...supports what I wrote 100%".
Democrats have defended the resolution by pointing to other instances of hate that carry more violent sentiments, including a poster found in the West Virginia Capitol that suggested a link between Omar and the 9/11 attacks. "Instead, they put a resolution on the floor which she then went out and said, 'This is a tremendous victory for me, '" Cheney said. "She deserves to be rebuked, by name, and removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee so that there is no mistake about the values and priorities that the House stands for". Sarsour in her video took credit for convincing House Democratic leadership for "expanding the language of the resolution to include condemning all forms of bigotry".
"I don't think that the congresswoman, perhaps, appreciates the full weight of how it was heard by other people", Pelosi said.
